Corrina Schader, MA PPS LEP
Born in the Central Valley by hard-working Mexican-American parents, I was raised to value education and the promises it can provide for my future. My own educational successes wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for my 1st grade teacher who took notice of me becoming disengaged from school. She had become aware of my lack of motivation and worked with my parents to have me tested for gifted education at a magnet school. From there, I fell in love with the school environment and knew that it was where I would build my career, helping other students reach their academic potential and foster a love of learning.
Always interested in the psychology of learning, I knew that school psychology was my calling when my first psychology course introduced it as a career option during a lecture. It was around that time that I was also diagnosed with ADHD and was able to understand that teachers, without formally going through an IEP process, had made accommodations for me throughout my entire education that had allowed me to succeed in school. I obtained my BA in Child Development at California State University, Fresno and a Dual MA in School Counseling and School Psychology with a PPS credential at Fresno Pacific University. I am forever grateful for the compassion and understanding of educators who go above and beyond to help meet the unique needs of learners.
I have now been a school psychologist for seven years with experience at all grade levels PS-12, including at alternative school settings. I have worked in education in various roles in education for 15 years and continue to love working in and with the public school setting. My experiences have provided me with an understanding of how schools identify exceptional students who have needs that require additional supports and how to work with schools to provide help to those students. I have a passion for advocating for the equity of all students, especially for the rights of individuals with disabilities and the members of the LGBTQ+ community. As an LEP, I hope to expand my reach to help students, families and school districts in the South Bay area in improving learning outcomes for students and making school fun and safe for all students.
